MS Bergensfjord theft revealed

MS Bergensfjord Accessory to Theft Made Right Years Later

An article in the New York Times Magazine describes how a woman who once worked aboard the Norwegian American Line’s MS Bergensfjord came to be in possession of an ancient piece of Greek marble and — after being troubled about it for years — returned it to Greek authorities.  Her at-the-time boyfriend purloined the artifact during a trip ashore at Corinth in 1967.

The Bergensfjord was built in 1956 and operated cruises and crossings for NAL until 1971, when she was sold to Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and renamed De Grasse.
